Build an interactive Power BI e-commerce profitability dashboard that helps business leaders understand sales performance, contribution margin, customer behavior, returns, inventory availability, and the operational costs behind each result.
In this ZoomCharts Power BI Challenge, participants will work with a European e-commerce dataset containing more than 9,000 order-line records from 2024 to 2025. The data connects transactions with products, customers, geographic markets, promotions, sales channels, fulfillment providers, return reasons, and customer lifecycle stages.
The dataset follows the complete path from gross sales to contribution margin. It includes discounts, refunds, shipping revenue, product costs, outbound and return shipping costs, fulfillment costs, payment fees, allocated marketing costs, return processing costs, lost sales value, and return losses.
The goal is to design a clear, decision-ready Power BI report that explains not only what the business sold, but what remained profitable. Your dashboard should help stakeholders identify profitable growth opportunities, understand margin pressure, evaluate promotions and channels, and discover where returns, delivery performance, or stock availability are reducing business value.
Sales and profitability
How are gross sales, net sales, contribution revenue, and contribution margin changing over time?
Products and categories
Which departments, categories, subcategories, products, brands, and price tiers generate the strongest revenue and margin?
Returns and financial impact
Which products, customer groups, and return reasons drive refunds, reverse-logistics costs, processing costs, and return losses?
Promotions and discounts
Which campaigns and discount levels support profitable growth, and where do promotions increase sales while weakening contribution margin?
Customers and cohorts
How do customer segments, loyalty tiers, acquisition channels, age groups, cohorts, and lifecycle stages differ in sales and profitability?
Sales channels and markets
How do the website, mobile app, marketplace, and social commerce channels perform across European countries, regions, and cities?
Fulfillment and delivery
How do fulfillment models, centers, carriers, and service levels compare by cost, delivery speed, and on-time performance?
Inventory and lost sales
Where are low stock, partial availability, and backorders causing cancelled orders, unfulfilled demand, and lost sales value?
Combine e-commerce data storytelling with intuitive Power BI report design. Use ZoomCharts Drill Down Visuals to help users explore performance over time, compare products, customers, channels, promotions, and markets, and move smoothly from executive KPIs to detailed insights about contribution margin, returns, fulfillment, and inventory availability.
Each submission is evaluated based on four main criteria: Inspiring, Intuitive, Interactive, and Insightful. These dimensions ensure that the solution is visually compelling, easy to understand, engaging to use, and capable of delivering valuable insights.
How visually clear, modern, and purposeful the report looks.
How clear and easy it is to understand the report at a glance.
How engaging and seamless the report exploration and interaction with data feels.
How accurate, complete, and meaningful the data is in driving decisions.
