Setting Up Fields

Drill Down Graph PRO uses graph database structure to visualize data as nodes, identify node relationships and connect them with nodes. This visual has three mandatory fields:

  • Source Nodes: defines the ‘parent’ of the node.
  • Target Nodes: defines the ‘children’ of the node.
  • Value: numerical value of the node.

You can also use the optional fields to adjust the appearance or behavior of individual nodes and links or add tooltip content. Leaving these fields blank will apply settings from Nodes (default category) and Links (default category) sections in the Format Visual tab of the Visualizations pane.

The following fields can be used to apply specific formatting conditions to the source node. If you have multiple rows that specify the same source node, than only the first instance of the value for those fields will be taken into account based on their order in your data table (e.g., two rows with the same specified source node yet different source node images.  Only the first image will be applied to the source node). This true for all the settings that are listed below (source node and target node).

  • Source Node Image: Display a custom image within the source node.
  • Source Node Color: Apply a custom fill color for the source node.
  • Source Node Label: Use a display name that’s different from the node ID.
  • Source Node Shape: Use a custom shape for the source node.
  • Source Category Class: Assign the source node to a specific category.
  • Source Node Radius: Override the default node sizing method (based on the Value field) and set a custom size for the source node.
  • Source Focus Nodes: Set the Focus Node status for the source node (1 or 0).
  • Source Node Aura: Assign the source node to auras. Multiple nodes with matching aura IDs will be encircled by a colorful “aura”.

The following fields are similar to the above properties, but they are applied to the target nodes of the specific data point.

  • Target Node Image: Display a custom image within the target nodes.
  • Target Node Color: Apply a custom fill color for the target nodes.
  • Target Node Label: Use a display name that’s different from the node ID.
  • Target Node Shape: Use a custom shape for the target node.
  • Target Category Class: Assign the target nodes to a specific category.
  • Target Node Radius: Override the default node sizing method (based on the Value field) and set a custom size for the target nodes.
  • Target Focus Nodes: Set the Focus Node status for the target nodes (1 or 0).
  • Target Node Aura: Assign the target nodes to auras. Multiple nodes with matching aura IDs will be encircled by a colorful “aura”.

You can also use the following optional fields to customize the appearance or behavior of individual links:

  • Link Color: Apply a custom color for the link.
  • Link Label Field (numeric): Display a numerical value on the link.
  • Link Label Field (textual): Display a custom text label on the link.
  • Link Category Class: Assign the link to a specific category.
  • Link Width: Adjust the line thickness of the link.
  • Link Defines Layout: Adjust the target node’s behavior when using Hierarchy layout.

In addition, you can add custom tooltip content that will be displayed when right-clicking the node or link.

  • Source Tooltip Field: for source node tooltips.
  • Target Tooltip Field: for target node tooltips.
  • Link Tooltip Content: for link tooltips.
